Lost in Translation

This report forms part of Rural Community Network's investigation of the issue of Low Community Infrastructure (LCI). The vital role of local community participation in decision making and addressing local social, economic, cultural and environmental issues is widely recognised. The absence of this community participation has led to the classification of certain locations and sectors within society as having Low Community Infrastructure. But what are the tell-tale signs and characteristics? Is LCI just another term that gets lost in translation, only adding to the confusion as policies develop to address what can be a complex matrix of localised interdependent factors which need localised and regional inputs into the solutions?
